Z-Wave Living Homes

Z-Wave and KNX are our two main protocols. Wireless premium without breaking walls.

What is Z-Wave?

Z-Wave is a sub-GHz wireless mesh protocol designed specifically for home automation. It runs on a different frequency from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth — so it doesn't compete for spectrum with your phones, laptops, or TV.

Every mains-powered Z-Wave device repeats the signal for every other device. The result is a self-healing network that grows stronger the more devices you add — the opposite of Wi-Fi, which gets congested.

Onwords picks Z-Wave as our main wireless protocol because it has a 10+ year track record of stable, encrypted, low-latency control. The same homes installed five years ago still work — without firmware churn or manufacturer lock-in.

Long-term support — what we mean

The cheap-Wi-Fi smart home dies in 3 years. We build for the decade after.

10-year horizon

We commit to hardware availability and software support for at least a decade after installation.

Spare parts inventory

Onwords keeps a stocked inventory of switches, modules, and hubs — so failures don't mean rip-and-replace.

AMC tiers

Annual maintenance contracts with preventive visits, priority response, and included spare-part replacements.

Owner-of-record installer

The same installer who built your system answers your service calls — no vendor blame games.

Where it fits

A quick decision guide — when Z-Wave is the right call.

Retrofit

Existing home / no rewiring

Z-Wave is our default recommendation. Behind-switch modules, touch panels, sensors — no civil work.

Hybrid

New build

Consider Z-Wave and KNX. Wired KNX for backbone, Z-Wave for premium scenes and battery sensors.

Coverage

Villa / farmhouse

Z-Wave mesh excels in spread-out homes. Each mains device extends the network — coverage scales with device count, not router placement.

Built on real homes

Not a startup demo. A decade of installations across South India.

Frequently asked

01How does Z-Wave perform in large Indian villas?

Z-Wave is a sub-GHz mesh network with each mains-powered device acting as a repeater. In a typical villa, signals comfortably reach across two floors and 30+ meters of indoor distance. For very large farmhouses or compound homes, we plan device placement up front so every room is covered with at least two hops of redundancy.

02What happens to Z-Wave devices during a power outage?

Z-Wave devices resume normal operation the moment power returns — there is no re-pairing or re-configuration needed. Battery-powered sensors (motion, door, leak) continue working through the outage. The Onwords central hub has an optional UPS so scenes, schedules and security automations remain active even during a power cut.

03How long does Z-Wave hardware actually last?

Z-Wave hardware is rated for 10+ years of operational life and is backwards-compatible across protocol generations. Onwords keeps a spare-parts inventory and a certified installer pool so any device can be replaced or upgraded without rebuilding the system.

04What warranty does Onwords offer on Z-Wave installations?

Every Z-Wave installation comes with a one-year comprehensive warranty on hardware plus our annual maintenance contract options. We also commit to long-term spare-parts availability — that is our specialty as a single-team end-to-end installer.

05Does the Z-Wave system work without internet?

Yes. Z-Wave is a local mesh — all scene execution, schedules, motion-triggered automations and switch control happen on the hub inside your home, not in the cloud. Internet is only needed for remote app control and voice assistants. Lights, curtains and security keep working when the broadband is down.

06Is Z-Wave compatible with Apple Home and Matter?

Yes. Our Z-Wave installations bridge to Apple Home through the Onwords Home Pro gateway, and the same gateway supports Matter for any future devices you add. You get the reliability of Z-Wave for the wired-feel premium controls and the open Matter ecosystem for future expansion.

Ready to plan your Z-Wave home?

We'll design a wireless premium system that fits your home today and still works a decade from now.
