Best Smart Home Automation Company in South India (2026): An Honest Comparison

Looking for the best smart home automation company in South India in 2026? The region has hundreds of installers, from one-man WiFi outfits in Kochi to KNX and Crestron houses in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. This is an honest directory-style comparison of the ten that matter, what each one is genuinely good at, and how to pick for your budget and your city.

Best smart home automation companies in South India compared for 2026, across Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Coimbatore

What changed in South India smart homes by 2026

The right company for you depends on which of these shifts applies to your house, because the market a South India buyer walks into in 2026 is not the one that existed five years ago.

South India became one market, not four

Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Coimbatore used to be separate pockets, each with its own handful of installers. In 2026 the serious companies quote across state lines, which means a buyer in one city can now realistically shortlist a team headquartered in another, provided that team has engineers on the ground locally.

Matter matured, and lock-in got weaker

The first question used to be which ecosystem you were marrying into, because a switch bought on one platform was dead weight on another. Matter, the cross-industry standard, has matured enough that mainstream hardware now speaks a common language, so a mixed home is far less painful than it was.

Retrofit stopped being the compromise option

Serious automation used to mean a new building and a wired bus. Modules that sit behind your existing switch plate now handle lights, fans, curtains and appliances, keep the physical switch working, and go in over a couple of days without breaking a wall.

Wired KNX is a new-villa decision, taken early

In new villas, wired KNX still wins on scale, load handling and the sheer number of points a large house needs. What changed is that buyers understand the timing: it has to be decided before the conduits go in, so the automation drawing belongs with the electrical drawing.

Crestron and Control4 turned into a paperwork question

At the top of the market, both platforms appear in South India tenders and both are genuinely capable. The useful question is no longer which brand, it is who is authorized to sell and program it, and whether that authorization can be shown to you in writing before you sign.

Buyers now ask what happens when the internet dies

The biggest change in how South India customers shop, and a healthy one. A system with local control keeps scenes, schedules and sensor logic running on hardware inside your house, with the app as a convenience layer. A cloud-only system stops being a smart home the moment the link drops.

How we ranked these companies: our methodology

Six criteria, applied to every company on the list including ourselves. Where a company has not published a figure or a certification, we write "Not stated" rather than guess, and nothing here is scored on marketing copy alone.

01

Budget range actually covered

How many of the four technology tiers the company can quote and install itself. A company that only sells one tier has to route every buyer into it, whatever the house needs.

02

Own products or reselling

Whether the hardware is built by the company or bought in. A house-built lineup means spares, firmware and warranty stay with one party for years.

03

Own software layer

Whether the app and the automation logic belong to the company or are a white-label. It decides who can fix a broken scene and whether the home keeps running offline.

04

Certification you can verify

KNX partnership, Crestron dealer status, Control4 authorization. Not the logo on a website, the paper. We wrote "Not stated" wherever a company has not published it publicly.

05

Cities with a real service team

Where engineers physically sit, not where the sales number rings. This is weighted heavily, because service is where automation actually fails.

06

Track record you can call

Years in the field, projects handed over, and whether older customers can be reached. Recent installs are still in the honeymoon period and prove very little.

If you want the same exercise run for one state instead of the whole region, the best smart home companies in Tamil Nadu list applies these criteria to the Tamil Nadu field alone.

The 10 best smart home automation companies in South India

Ranked on budget range covered, whether they build their own products, service depth and the cities they can actually reach across Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Coimbatore. Every competitor line below is a fair summary of what that company is genuinely good at.

1

Onwords

Our pick

Coimbatore headquarters, with Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad

The only company here quoting all four budget tiers: WiFi retrofit from ₹50K, Z-Wave and touch from ₹2L, KNX villas from ₹4L, Crestron estates from ₹25L. From Tier 2, every home runs Living Home OS with Iniyal, our home AI. Own WiFi product lineup, authorized Crestron dealer, 6,000+ automatic gates and 400+ smart homes over 7 years with 94 people. Featured by Prime Insights magazine as an Iconic Brand of the Year 2023.

Best fit: Any budget, in any South Indian metro, with one accountable team.

Best suited to a buyer who does not yet know which tier they belong in, because all four tiers are quoted by the same team and nobody has to steer you toward the only technology they sell. The hardware, the app and the service sit with one company, and the Coimbatore experience centre lets you press the switches before deciding.

Ask us to unplug the router in the demo, and ask for the line-item BOQ before any advance.

  • The only company here covering all four tiers: WiFi retrofit from ₹50K, Z-Wave touch from ₹2L, KNX from ₹4L, Crestron from ₹25L
  • Own WiFi product lineup, not a pure reseller
  • Own Living Home OS with Iniyal, our home AI, on every home from Tier 2 upward
  • 6,000+ automatic gates and 400+ smart homes, 7 years, 94 people
  • Authorized Crestron dealer and KNX partner
  • Coimbatore headquarters with teams in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, one accountable company
2

Keus

Hyderabad, premium projects across South India

Premium own-ecosystem smart home brand with its own switches, panels and app.

Best fit: Premium Hyderabad and metro villas that want one designed ecosystem.

Best suited to a premium buyer who wants a single designed ecosystem, the switches, the panels and the app all from one maker, rather than assembling parts from several brands. An own-ecosystem approach usually means a consistent look across every room and a support path that runs straight back to the people who built the hardware.

Worth asking how the system behaves with the internet unplugged, and what a replacement panel costs in year four.

3

Smartify

Chennai, with an installer network

Established integrator with strong brand partnerships and a wide installer network.

Best fit: Mid-to-premium Chennai apartments and villas.

Best suited to buyers in the mid to premium band who are comfortable choosing from established partner brands rather than a house-built product line. Brand partnerships usually mean well documented hardware and a predictable spares path, which matters more in year three than people expect, and an installer network means reach beyond one city.

Worth asking which installer actually executes your site, which brands they carry in your budget band, and how service works outside the metro.

4

Wozart

Hyderabad origin, city coverage across South India

Own wireless product line, retrofit friendly.

Best fit: Retrofit apartments in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai.

Best suited to apartment owners doing a retrofit, where nothing can be re-wired and the whole job happens behind the existing switch plates. A company with its own wireless line controls its own roadmap and spares, a genuine strength for a product-led purchase, and the city-by-city coverage helps buyers outside the home market.

Worth asking who does the on-site install and commissioning in your city, and how it behaves with no internet.

5

Drasis Automation

Chennai, pan-India delivery

Pan-India reach with a hotel and home portfolio.

Best fit: Hospitality projects and multi-state owners.

Best suited to hotels, resorts and serviced apartments, where the need is repeatable room logic and guest-facing simplicity. A pan-India footprint helps an owner building in more than one state who wants one specification everywhere. Residential buyers can look here too, though hospitality is the distinctive part.

Worth asking for a hospitality reference you can call, and who owns on-site service for a property in your state.

6

H-SMART Living

Chennai

Chennai integrator with a residential focus.

Best fit: Chennai homes that want one point of contact end to end.

Best suited to Chennai homeowners who want a single point of contact through design, install and handover rather than a multi-vendor project. A residential focus means the team is used to the practical constraints of an occupied home: dust, timing, and working around a family that still lives there.

Worth asking for two completed Chennai homes you can visit, and for the service response time in writing.

7

OOB Smart Home

Chennai

KNX-focused integrator.

Best fit: Chennai villas on wired KNX.

Best suited to a new Chennai villa where the wiring can still be designed before plastering, since KNX is a wired bus standard and cannot sensibly be retrofitted into a finished house. A KNX focus means the team thinks in load schedules and panel layouts, the right habit for a large build.

Worth asking who holds the ETS project file after handover and whether you get a copy of it.

8

Otohom

Chennai and Bangalore

Two-city presence across Chennai and Bangalore.

Best fit: Owners with homes in both cities.

Best suited to a buyer who owns or is building in both Chennai and Bangalore and wants one specification and one relationship across both. A two-city team is also useful for families who move between the cities during the year and want the same app and the same engineers in either house.

Worth asking which city team owns your project after handover, and whether the response time is the same in both.

9

Vynet

Bangalore

Local Bangalore installer.

Best fit: Bangalore apartments and villas.

Best suited to Bangalore apartments and villas, particularly along the Whitefield and Sarjapur corridors, where a local team can reach the site without crossing the city. Being physically close to the customer is the single biggest predictor of good service in this trade, and Bangalore traffic makes that more true here than anywhere else in South India.

Worth asking how far the service radius extends across the city, and what the response time is on a fault call.

10

Grow More Solutions

Chennai

Chennai installer covering automation alongside allied electrical work.

Best fit: Entry-level Chennai projects.

Best suited to an entry-level Chennai project where automation is added to a wider electrical or interiors scope, and the goal is to automate a few rooms, live with it, and expand later. Starting small is perfectly reasonable provided the platform can grow, so the expansion path is the thing to check.

Worth asking what ten more points would cost in year two, and whether the same app and hub carry the expansion.

How to actually choose

Five checks that separate a system you will still love in year five from one you will rip out.

01

A local service team

Someone who can be at your door in your city, not a number that routes to another state. Automation fails at the service layer, not the sale.

02

A BOQ before the advance

A line-item bill of quantities, every module, panel and cable priced, before you part with money. Vague lump-sum quotes hide the substitutions.

03

Own products or reseller

Ask who makes the hardware. A company that builds its own lineup can fix, replace and support it for years. A pure reseller depends on whoever it buys from.

04

What happens when the internet dies

Ask them to unplug the router in the demo. A real system keeps scenes, schedules and sensors running locally. A cloud-only system becomes a wall of dead switches.

05

A demo home you can visit

Photos and renders prove nothing. Walk through a working home or experience centre, press the switches yourself, and see how the family actually uses it.

The longer version of this checklist lives in how to choose a smart home company and in the 10 mistakes buyers make when choosing a home automation company.

Coverage by city: a South India smart home installer directory

South India is not one market. Chennai has the deepest bench of installers, Bangalore and Hyderabad have strong local fields, Coimbatore is a real second cluster, and Kochi is mostly served on a project basis by teams travelling in. Onwords serves Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana from its Coimbatore headquarters, and takes Kochi and Kerala projects on a project basis. Onwords was featured by Prime Insights magazine as an Iconic Brand of the Year 2023.

CityWho serves itWhat buyers there usually want
ChennaiThe deepest bench in South India: established integrators, KNX specialists, budget retrofitters and national dealer networks all sell here.Apartment retrofits along the OMR and Anna Nagar corridors, wired KNX in new ECR side villas. The most brand-aware buyers in the region. Onwords serves Chennai with a local team.
CoimbatoreA real second cluster in Tamil Nadu, with design-led integrators, entry-level installers, and our own headquarters and experience centre in the city.Independent houses and villas rather than apartments, often interiors-led, with lighting scenes valued as highly as the switching. Onwords is headquartered here.
BengaluruA wide field of local Bangalore installers plus teams covering the city from Hyderabad and Chennai. Corridor coverage matters more than city coverage here.Apartments and villas along Whitefield, Sarjapur and the north corridor, usually app-first buyers who care about Matter, Apple Home and voice. Onwords serves Bengaluru with a local team.
HyderabadHome to two of the strongest product-led companies in the region, alongside project integrators working the villa communities.Premium villas in the west of the city, where an own-ecosystem look across every room and a single app carry real weight. Onwords serves Hyderabad with a local team.
KochiMostly served on a project basis by teams travelling in from Bangalore, Chennai or Coimbatore, alongside local electrical contractors adding automation to a wiring scope.Large independent houses and NRI-owned homes that sit empty for months, so remote monitoring, security integration and reliable offline operation matter most. Onwords takes Kochi and Kerala projects on a project basis.
MaduraiCovered largely by companies driving in from Coimbatore and Chennai, plus local contractors on the physical install.Large multi-generational family homes, where senior-friendly operation beats app features and the wall switch has to keep working. Onwords serves Madurai.

City by city detail on what we install and who installs it: Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. State-wide pages cover Karnataka and Telangana. Wherever you are, the test is the same: ask where the nearest engineer physically sits, not where the head office is.

Reviews and references: how to read them before you shortlist

Star ratings are the first thing every buyer searches and the least useful number on the page. Four ways to get something real out of the reviews for any installer on this list, ours included.

Read the one and two star reviews first

Five star reviews tell you the sales visit went well. The low ratings tell you how the company behaves when a module fails in month fourteen, which is the only behaviour you are actually buying.

Count the reviews that mention service

Separate reviews about the quotation and the installation week from reviews written months later. A company with plenty of the first and none of the second has not been tested yet.

Check the reviews are from your city

A strong Chennai team does not automatically mean a strong Bangalore or Kochi install, because the engineers are different people. Filter the reviews down to the city where your house sits.

Ask for a two year old reference

Any company can produce a delighted customer from last month. Ask for one handed over two years ago, call them yourself, and ask what broke and how long the fix took.

Our own customer reviews and ratings are collected in one place, low ratings included. Apply the same four tests to them that you apply to everyone else.

Questions to ask on the site visit

Every company here will do a free site visit, and most buyers waste it asking about price. Ask every shortlisted company these ten instead, including us.

1

Can I have a line-item BOQ before I pay anything?

A bill of quantities prices every module, panel and cable separately. It is the only document that lets you compare two quotes honestly, and the only one that stops a cheaper part being substituted later.

2

What is the written service SLA after handover?

Ask for the response time in hours or days, in writing, and what it covers. Every real failure happens after the installer has left.

3

Show me the house with the internet unplugged.

Do not accept a verbal answer. Ask them to pull the router, then operate a scene, a schedule and a motion sensor. Whatever still works is what you are buying.

4

Where does the nearest engineer to my house physically sit?

In a five-city region this is the question that separates the shortlist. A company headquartered elsewhere is fine if it staffs your city, and a local badge means nothing if the engineer is on a plane.

5

Can you show me your KNX, Crestron or Control4 authorization?

At the top tiers the platform is only as good as the certified team programming it. Ask for the paper, not the logo, and ask which named engineer holds the certification.

6

What happens to my home if this company shuts down?

Uncomfortable, and completely fair. Ask whether the system runs on a standard, whether another integrator could take it over, and whether the app depends on a server only they operate.

7

Who programs the system, and do I get the project file?

Ask whether programming is in-house or subcontracted, and who holds the configuration afterwards. A copy of the project file is what makes a second opinion possible later.

8

What does the AMC cost, and what does the warranty cover?

Separate the hardware warranty from the workmanship warranty, they are usually different lengths. Ask what a post-warranty visit and a replacement module cost, and what the annual contract includes.

9

What will ten more points cost me in two years?

Almost every customer expands. Ask whether the same hub, app and wiring carry the expansion, or whether growing means replacing the core.

10

Can I speak to a customer you handed over two years ago?

Recent customers are still in the honeymoon period. A two year old site tells you about service response, module failures and whether the phone still gets answered.

Red flags when choosing any automation company

These apply to every company in South India, ours included. None is proof of bad intent on its own, but any one should slow you down, and two together should stop you.

Advance demanded before any design

Money before drawings is the oldest warning sign in this trade. Design first, priced BOQ second, advance third.

No written BOQ, only a lump sum

A single number cannot be compared against a competitor or checked at delivery, and it makes a quiet substitution easy to hide.

No install and service team in your city

A sales number that routes to another state is fine until something stops working. Ask where the nearest engineer physically sits.

A cloud-only system

If the scenes, schedules and sensor logic live on a remote server, your home goes dumb every time the connection drops.

No demo home or experience centre

Renders and catalogues prove nothing about how a system behaves on a Tuesday evening. Without a working home to touch, you are buying on faith.

Unbranded hardware with no warranty paper

Modules with no brand marking, model number or written warranty are impossible to replace and impossible to claim against.

Why we put ourselves first

This is our site, so of course we ranked ourselves number one. You should discount that. What you should not discount is the claim list, because every line of it is falsifiable. Check it, and if any of it is wrong, rank us lower.

  • Four technology tiers under one roof: WiFi retrofit from ₹50K, Z-Wave touch from ₹2L, KNX from ₹4L, Crestron from ₹25L
  • Our own software layer, Living Home OS, with Iniyal our home AI, from Tier 2 upward
  • Authorized Crestron dealer and KNX partner
  • 6,000+ automatic gates and 400+ smart homes installed across South India in 7 years

The last check is the one that settles it: visit our experience centre in Coimbatore, unplug the router yourself, watch the home keep running, and judge. Then go do the same at any other company on this list. Whoever survives that test deserves your advance.

Our claims, and how to check them

A claim you cannot test is marketing. Every claim we make is below, paired with the specific thing you can do to check it. Ask every company you shortlist for their version of this table.

FAQ

For range and accountability, Onwords: it is the only company on this list quoting all four technology tiers, WiFi retrofit from ₹50K, Z-Wave and touch from ₹2L, KNX villas from ₹4L and Crestron estates from ₹25L, with its own products and its own Living Home OS from Tier 2. For a Hyderabad premium ecosystem home, Keus is strong. For a Chennai KNX villa, OOB and Smartify are strong. Match the company to your budget tier and your city.
