Smart Home Packages in Tamil Nadu: ₹50K WiFi Retrofit to ₹60L Crestron

Every smart home conversation starts with the same question: what will it cost? Here is the honest answer, as four packages Onwords actually installs across Tamil Nadu, from a ₹50,000 WiFi retrofit of your existing switches to a ₹60 lakh Crestron estate.

The four Onwords smart home packages for Tamil Nadu homes, from WiFi retrofit to Crestron

Why packages instead of a vague quote

Most automation companies answer the price question with “it depends”, then ask for a site visit before they say a number. That is backwards. You should know which band you are in before anyone walks into your house. So we publish the four packages we actually build, with real budget ranges, and we put a line-item bill of quantities in your hand before you commit a rupee.

Ranges, not riddles

Four published budget bands. You can place your home on the ladder in one minute.

BOQ before commitment

Every device, every switch, every metre of cable listed and priced before any advance.

One company, four tiers

We install all four technologies, so nobody has to sell you the only one they stock.

The budget ladder

Onwords works across four technology tiers, so one company covers every budget:

TierBudgetTechnologyBest for
1₹50,000 to ₹2 lakhWiFi Retrofit (Onwords own WiFi lineup + retrofit modules)Existing homes, rentals, first smart home. No rewiring, no civil work.
2₹2 lakh to ₹6 lakhZ-Wave mesh + premium touch panels2-4 BHK apartments and independent homes that want reliability beyond WiFi.
3₹4 lakh to ₹30 lakhKNX (wired, the global standard)New-build villas and large homes. 30+ year infrastructure.
4₹25 lakh to ₹60 lakhCrestron (authorized dealer)Luxury villas and estates: unified AV, lighting, shading, climate.

Ranges overlap because home size drives cost more than technology does.

Tier 1: WiFi retrofit, ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh

Retrofit modules go behind your existing switch plates, running on our own Onwords WiFi product lineup. You keep your switches, your walls and your interiors. Typical home: any finished 2-3 BHK apartment or independent house, including rented ones.

  • Retrofit modules behind existing switch plates, no rewiring
  • Our own WiFi product lineup, not a reseller catalogue
  • App plus voice: Alexa, Google Home and Siri
  • 3 to 7 days to install, zero civil work

The honest limit: WiFi is app control and schedules, not the full OS experience. It does not include Living Home OS, wired bus infrastructure or premium touch panels.

Tier 2: Z-Wave mesh, ₹2 lakh to ₹6 lakh

Z-Wave runs its own dedicated radio, so your automation is not fighting your WiFi for airtime. Add premium touch panels and sensors, and this is where Living Home OS enters, which is the point at which the house stops waiting for instructions. Typical home: a 2-4 BHK that wants reliability beyond WiFi.

  • Z-Wave mesh on a dedicated radio, devices relay for each other
  • Premium touch panels plus presence, door and climate sensors
  • Living Home OS included: home AI and true automation
  • Works on finished homes, still no major civil work

The honest limit: it does not include wired KNX bus cabling or distributed AV. Device cost per point is higher than WiFi.

Tier 3: KNX wired, ₹4 lakh to ₹30 lakh

KNX is the wired bus standard European villas run on, with a 30+ year lifespan and no dependence on a router. Onwords is a KNX partner, and we wire it before plastering. Living Home OS sits on top. Typical home: a new-build villa or a large independent house still at the wiring stage.

  • Wired KNX bus, the global standard, 30+ year infrastructure
  • Lighting scenes, AC zones, curtains and security integration
  • KNX partner engineering, wired before plastering
  • Living Home OS on top for AI and local automation

The honest limit: it does not suit a finished home. If the walls are closed and plastered, Tier 1 or Tier 2 is the honest answer.

Tier 4: Crestron, ₹25 lakh to ₹60 lakh

Onwords is an authorized Crestron dealer. Crestron unifies AV, lighting, shades and climate behind one remote and one interface, with cinema-grade rooms as standard. Living Home OS bridges it to Iniyal, our home AI. Typical home: a luxury villa or estate.

  • Authorized Crestron dealer, dealer-programmed systems
  • One remote for unified AV, lighting, shading and climate
  • Cinema-grade rooms and bespoke touch interfaces
  • Living Home OS bridges Crestron to Iniyal

The honest limit: below roughly ₹25 lakh, Crestron is the wrong buy. Our KNX and Z-Wave tiers deliver most of the outcome for a fraction of the price, and we will say so.

If you want the technology argument rather than the price argument, read the full WiFi vs Z-Wave vs KNX vs Crestron comparison, the KNX villa project guide or our Crestron in India guide.

The second USP

From Tier 2 the home gets a brain

From Tier 2 onwards, every Onwords home runs Living Home OS, our own software layer. That is what turns device control into a real smart home: home AI (Iniyal), true automation that acts on its own (presence, schedules, sensors, learning), one app for the whole family, and the system keeps working locally even when the internet is down. Most competitors stop at “control from your phone”. We ship a home that thinks.

Iniyal, the home AI

Ask the house in plain words. It answers, and it acts.

Automation that acts alone

Presence, schedules, sensors and learning, not just buttons on a phone.

One app for the family

Every room, every device, every member, in a single Living Home app.

Alive without internet

Scenes, schedules and sensors keep running locally when the link drops.

How to choose your tier

Three questions settle it, and you can answer all three yourself before you speak to anyone.

Existing home or new build?

Finished walls point to Tier 1 or Tier 2. A build still at the wiring stage keeps Tier 3 and Tier 4 open.

How big is the home?

Size drives cost more than protocol. A large home on a simple technology can cost the same as a small home on a premium one.

How deep should the automation go?

If tapping a phone is enough, Tier 1 is honest value. If you want the house to act on its own, you need Living Home OS, from Tier 2 up.

How to pick your smart home package

  1. 1

    Match your home type

Match your home: existing home with finished walls points to Tier 1 or 2, a new build before plastering opens Tier 3 and 4.

  2. 2

    Set the budget band

Set the budget band first: ₹50K to 2L, 2L to 6L, 4L to 30L, or 25L+. The band picks the technology, not the other way around.

  3. 3

Decide app control vs true automation

Decide how smart: app control is Tier 1, a home that acts on its own needs Living Home OS, which starts at Tier 2.

  4. 4

    Get a line-item BOQ

Get a BOQ: we survey, design and give a line-item bill of quantities before you commit a rupee.

What is always included, whatever the tier

The technology changes across the ladder. The way Onwords works does not. Seven years, 6,782+ automatic gates installed, HQ in Coimbatore and branches across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana, and every project runs the same way.

Design and BOQ

  • Free site survey anywhere in Tamil Nadu
  • Room by room automation design
  • Line-item bill of quantities before any advance

Install and handover

  • Our own install team, not a subcontracted crew
  • Testing, commissioning and a family walkthrough
  • Scenes tuned to how you actually live

Service and one app

  • Service teams in Coimbatore and Chennai
  • Remote diagnostics, AMC and warranty support
  • One family app across every room and every tier

Frequently asked questions

Between ₹50,000 and ₹60 lakh depending on the tier. A WiFi retrofit of an existing 2-3 BHK starts around ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh. Z-Wave with touch panels runs ₹2 to ₹6 lakh. A full KNX villa runs ₹4 to ₹30 lakh. Crestron estates run ₹25 to ₹60 lakh. Onwords installs all four tiers, so the budget picks the technology.
